Overview of the Solar Rooftop Yojana in UP
While the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is a nationwide central initiative, certain forward-thinking states offer massive additional benefits to accelerate solar adoption among their citizens.
Uttar Pradesh is currently leading the charge in India.
The state government introduced the UP Solar Yojana, which acts as a direct financial "top-up" subsidy on top of the central government's offering. This makes solar installation incredibly cheap for homeowners living anywhere in UP.
The Massive UP State Subsidy Breakdown
The UP government provides an additional ₹15,000 per kW, capped at a maximum of ₹30,000.
| System Size | Central Subsidy | UP State Top-Up | Total Subsidy You Get |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 kW | ₹30,000 | ₹15,000 | ₹45,000 |
| 2 kW | ₹60,000 | ₹30,000 | ₹90,000 |
| 3 kW (Most Popular) | ₹78,000 | ₹30,000 | ₹1,08,000 |
*Note: The state subsidy is processed through UPNEDA (Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency).
UP Solar Yojana Online Registration Process
Because the schemes are integrated, residents of Uttar Pradesh do not need to visit a separate state website to apply. You follow the exact same foundational process as the rest of the country, using the central portal.
-
National Portal:
Start your registration on the central portal:
pmsuryaghar.gov.in. -
Select Your State & DISCOM: During step one,
you must carefully select 'Uttar Pradesh' as your state. You will
then be prompted to choose your regional DISCOM (Distribution
Company). UP has several, including:
- UPPCL
- DVVNL (Dakshinanchal)
- MVVNL (Madhyanchal)
- PVVNL (Pashchimanchal)
- PUVVNL (Purvanchal)
- Feasibility & Installation: The technical feasibility approval and vendor selection process remains identical to the national guidelines. You must hire an empaneled vendor.
How is the State Subsidy Disbursed?
This is where the UP Solar Yojana really shines in its efficiency.
After your solar panels are installed and the net meter is successfully commissioned by a DISCOM engineer, your central subsidy of up to ₹78,000 is credited directly to your bank account within 30 days.
Following this, the state subsidy (up to ₹30,000) is usually processed automatically through the UPNEDA framework, which is digitally linked with the national portal's database.
Consumers do not typically need to fill out a separate application or visit a UPNEDA office for the state top-up, provided they applied through the central portal correctly and ensured their bank account is linked to their Aadhaar.
Why Uttar Pradesh is a Prime Location for Solar
Geographically, Uttar Pradesh receives extremely high solar irradiance for most of the year.
With roughly 300 sunny days annually, installing a high-efficiency solar panel in UP guarantees maximum electricity generation compared to many other regions in India.
This means your 3kW system will easily generate over 360 units of electricity per month, ensuring your ROI (Return on Investment) is incredibly fast—often paying for itself in under 2 years thanks to the massive ₹1,08,000 combined subsidy.
